Job Description

Highway Autonomous Systems Validation Driver

Step into a role where every mile matters. Your workday begins by meeting your co-driver, reviewing a pre-planned highway route around Newark, CA, and preparing an advanced test vehicle to exercise its assisted and autonomous capabilities under real-world conditions. You will keep a sharp eye on system behavior, capture edge-case data, and document every observation to help our engineers refine the technology.

Location, Pay & Terms

  • Location: Newark, CA
  • Pay: $23.25/hour
  • Contract: 6 months with potential extension

Schedule

40 hours/week allocated across two dedicated shifts (each driver works one shift with 2 days off per week ):

  • Mon–Sun, 4:00am–12:00pm (early shift)
  • Mon–Sun, 4:00pm–12:00am (late shift)

What a Typical Shift Looks Like

  1. Pre-drive readiness: Confirm vehicle health and safety status; coordinate with workshop staff if maintenance is needed.
  2. System setup: Initiate and monitor vehicle logging equipment; prepare data collection media and annotation tools.
  3. Highway operations: Drive assigned highway loops with a co-driver, continuously monitoring ADAS/autonomous behavior and adhering strictly to traffic laws and safety protocols.
  4. Edge-case capture: Tag and annotate notable scenarios; ensure data is properly logged and handled, including physical data disks.
  5. Troubleshooting: Identify, document, and report any bugs, malfunctions, or environmental issues; collaborate with cross-functional partners to address them.
  6. Test execution: Follow predefined test plans to evaluate system capabilities and limitations.
  7. Documentation & reporting: Record procedures, results, and observations; produce clear, detailed summaries and recommendations.
  8. Collaboration: Provide actionable feedback to engineers, developers, and researchers to improve system performance.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of professional driving experience, including extensive highway driving in the Newark, CA area.
  • Successful completion of internal operator training program.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and productivity software (MS Office).
  • Must be in good health, able to maintain vigilance and focus for two-hour uninterrupted blocks. Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate required throughout employment.
  • Excellent driving skills with a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. Thorough understanding of local traffic laws and safety practices.
  • Experience in testing or operating autonomous vehicles highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Detail-oriented, capable of collecting and analyzing data accurately.
  • Proficient verbal and written English skills for effective reporting and collaboration.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with strong self-motivation and accountability.
  • Flexibility to adjust to changing project priorities and requirements.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings as required for testing.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (additional technical education or certification a plus).
