A laboratory within the College of Veterinary Medicine at Infectious Diseases Institute, the Ohio State University is seeking a highly motivated Researcher 1, to work on an NIH-funded project, investigating the pathogenic mechanisms and preventive measures of a group of vector-borne intracellular bacteria that cause emerging zoonoses.
The successful candidate will utilize in vitro and in vivo experimental models (e.g. ticks and mice) to identify and characterize bacterial virulence factors and host cell machinery; molecular, cellular, and immunological mechanisms that facilitate interkingdom transmission of obligatory intracellular bacteria between mammals and ticks; and development of tick transmission blocking vaccines for this group of pathogens.
In addition, the researcher will collect, analyze and interpret research data; assists in the preparation of research papers for publication and presentation at national and international conferences; perform critical analysis of literature relevant to research projects; coordinates laboratory activities and work assignments of postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students; or perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Education:
PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, or related discipline.
Required Experiences:
A strong publication record and organizational skills.
Advanced molecular, cellular, and microbiological research techniques and procedures including molecular cloning, protein purification, cell culture, transfection, Western blot, RT-qPCR, ELISA, confocal microscopy, and/or flow cytometry analysis.
Laboratory mice experiences, including mouse inoculation, tissue and blood sample collection; research experience with arthropod (tick) handling will be preferred.
